Welcome to Inked in Time
Lots of local history books will tell you who somebody in Malmesbury was, or what a place in Malmesbury used to be.
Inked in Time is a website that uses old newspapers and lost texts to find out what was happening to those people, and what was going on in those places. Then we share what we found online, in ways we hope make it interesting to explore.
Malmesbury Cottage Hospital
The Whole Hog Bar and Restaurant can be found at the top of Malmesbury High Street, near to the Market Cross. The building was originally built and operated as Malmesbury Cottage Hospital from 1897 to 1925.
We’ve found more than 50 articles that help paint a fascinating history of the hospital in Malmesbury. You can explore them as an interactive map, or listen to them as a totally free-of-charge audiobook (there aren’t any catches!)
🚧James Barnard’s Silversmiths Shop🚧
This section is under very active construction. Beware broken links and falling blocks! 🏗️
The Cherry Tree can be found at the top of Malmesbury High Street, on the corner of Gloucester Street. From the early 1870s until the early 1890s, the shop (which at the time, was combined with 3 High Street) was occupied by James Barnard, a silversmith.
