From the Wiltshire Times on Saturday the 25th of March 1916
The death occurred on Monday evening, at the Cottage Hospital, of Miss. E. Gwynne-Davies, Mansfield Terrace, who was for many years headmistress of the Cross Hayes Church of England Infant Schools, Malmesbury. It was only at the end of last month that her resignation took effect, this having been enforced by continued ill health. On leaving, Miss Gwynne-Davies was the recipient of handsome presents from the managers and staff, including a purse of gold.
The late Miss Gwynne-Davies, who was a native of North Wales, was an expert in scientific teaching methods. She was a life governor of the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, and had in former years rendered signal service in her profession. She also took a great interest in antiquarian research and was a member of the Wiltshire Archaeological Society.
