From the Wiltshire Times on Saturday the 18th of December 1920
Mr. A. L. Forrester, coroner for North Wilts, held an enquiry on Monday, concerning the death of William Jones, aged 61, of Foundry Road, a carter in the employ of Mr. Wootton, Thornhill Farm.
The evidence showed that he and his master were attending to a mare when, through the twitch breaking, the mare plunged, and Jones was thrown down, and the animal stepped on his finger, and severely lacerated it. His injuries were attended to at the Cottage Hospital, but in spite of the doctor’s advice he insisted on going home.
On Saturday he was so ill that he was taken to the hospital where he died from tetanus or lock-jaw. A verdict of death from injuries accidentally received, was returned.
