From the North Wilts Chronicle on Friday the 7th of July 1899

On Monday morning a lad of 16, named Joseph Matthew, a native of Malmesbury, while engaged on the new railway near Kingsway, slipped and fell on the metals, the wheel of the engine passing over his left arm and nearly cutting it off. The lad was at once taken to Malmesbury Cottage Hospital, and his injured limb amputated above the elbow.
